One problem that Cambodia is currently facing when it comes to global partnerships lies within the global partnership itself. Cambodia has set up a global partnership for education and it is actually working really well for them. The only problem is that there are some gaps in the system. Most bases are being covered, but when you take a closer look into it and pay attention to the details, you will see that there are more things that need to be done when it comes to the children in the early childhood age range. Only 15% of Cambodia's 3-4 year olds have access to early childhood education. The partnership that they have created has fallen short in their efforts to meet the demands in that area.
The cause of this is that there is a shortage of pre-school facilities. The large majority of out-of-school children come from the poorest families. Because of the fact that they can't afford it and there is no outside support to help them, these young children are growing up and being raised without an education, and that is going to affect the future of the country because the children that are being raised uneducated are not going to be able to contribute to the society and then global partnerships that are already established will not be able to flourish and become strong, stable relationships.
The solution to this problem would be to petition to the countries that they have a global partnership with, and present a case that shows the importance of educating even the young children. I think that going about this in a professional and controlled way would build trust and create a stronger global partnership. The level of respect would increase and you would be able to see each other's perspectives on these different issues and come to a compromise and agreement. That way all countries that are involved would be able to benefit from it and their network would be stronger and more effective. If they could build this trust and this strong relationship with their global partnership I think that they would be able to convince them to be more lenient and equal in their help in all areas. That way when it comes to education, it would be available to people of all ages and everyone could benefit from it.
Environmental Sustainability:
A problem that Cambodia currently has on their hands revolves around their sewage system. It is increasingly becoming untreated and the waste is polluting the surface and ground water in many of Cambodia's cities and towns. Throughout the country, the coverage of the sewer-system is limited and in some places is no longer functioning at all. The results of this are devastating and discouraging. There have been higher incidences of diarrhea and cholera and some other health problems as well. Also because of the build up, there has been more pressure on the system which has before proved as a safeguard against flooding, but is being weakened.
The cause of this stems from the growth of the country. This doesn't seem like a bad thing in and of itself, but because of the quick growth that is occurring I think that they were not completely prepared for it and they couldn't handle all of the responsibilities that came with the growth. More and more people gravitated to the urban centers which results in higher quantities of untreated urban domestic sewage which results in the polluted water. They have more sewage but less people stepping up to the job to take care of it.
A solution to this would be to make known the issues that were arising from this situation then and explained the gravity of it and how it could potentially effect their communities. If they did this then people would be more willing and feel more of a responsibility to help create a safe and healthy environment to raise their families in and start putting forth more effort to contribute to the cause. I think another big thing would be to offer a higher wage to those who are wiling to complete the job. A sad fact in our world is that money motivates people under almost any circumstance. So I think that if we put a higher price on the job then more people would step up to the plate and the job would get done. It wouldn't be much of a problem if only more people were willing to do the job.
